‘You know you’ve got to have a bit of a laugh. Or I’ll text Adey [Adrian Dunbar] or Martin [Compston] and I’ll say “Oh have you seen that they’ve changed the schedule and there’s a massive scene that’s now tomorrow, that they haven’t learnt?” And they’ll say “What?!”‘

Vicky also managed to evade giving away any spoilers as she appeared on Steve Wright’s BBC Radio 2 show later on Thursday.

Although the actress promised an ‘exciting’ finale, and gave a special mention Anna Maxwell Martin, who joined the cast as Deputy Chief Superintendent Patricia Carmichael in the penultimate episode.

Who is H? The final episode of Line of Duty will air on Sunday evening on BBC One, with viewers hoping the mysterious ‘H’ will finally be unmasked

‘It’s a few days away now anyway. It’s great. We’ve got a 90 minute finale. Obviously Anna Maxwell Martin has joined the gang and it’s going to be exciting.’

So far this series, the episodes averaged 10.6 million viewers in seven-day four-screen consolidated figures, with the penultimate episode last Sunday receiving the highest overnight figure ever, with an average of 7.9 million viewers.

The hugely popular show’s penultimate episode saw AC-12 boss, Superintendent Ted Hastings arrested for conspiracy to murder, with all the clues pointing to him to be the mysterious super villain ‘H’.

But new photos of the series’ finale released on Wednesday seem to prove Hastings isn’t the top bent copper.

The series of images focus on Ted, played by Adrian Dunbar, in a room with new character DCS Patricia Carmichael.

But while last week Patricia and Ted were facing off in an interrogation, ending with Ted’s arrest for conspiracy to murder undercover copper John Corbett, the new images show them in what looks like a police briefing room.

Ted is still out of police uniform and in the prison jumper he was seen in at the close of the penultimate episode, but this time he’s standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Patricia, suggesting he’s helping to solve the case.

Line of Duty concludes on BBC One this Sunday at 9pm.
